In this month of love and chocolate I thought it would be well-timed to share my tradition of adding a few pieces of dark chocolate to my yoni steam practice.  Yes, that’s right! Chocolate and yoni steaming ~ decadent, right!

If you have had the opportunity to try a yoni steam you will know that it is a delight for the physical senses.  The steam is warm on the skin while it is fragrant with flowers and herbs.  It is incredibly relaxing for the body and mind.  It truly is a sensual experience.

One day, I realized that I wanted to awaken all of my senses during this sacred time.  Our sense of touch and smell are the first senses to be stimulated with a yoni steam.  If you play some calming music and have your steam somewhere that feels beautiful and peaceful to you then your senses of sight and hearing are being used.  But taste … ah.  Thus, chocolate.  My personal weakness is dark chocolate with sea salt … oh my.  It is pretty much the only chocolate we have in the house as I eat more chocolate than my husband does (he’s more of a nut kind of guy, no pun intended there!).

When incorporating chocolate into your practice, I highly recommend splurging for a high-quality and organic chocolate.  It’s interesting, but when you opt for these higher quality chocolates you actually tend to eat less of it because it is assuredly satiating your desire.  You can find these choices at your natural foods store and I tell you, over the past few years the chocolate selection has truly broadened! You can find fair-trade chocolate, organic, dark, and milk in a variety of flavours and combinations.  Nuts, figs, cherries, and assorted sea salts grace our palate these days!

The holistic nutritionist in me can’t write about chocolate without naming a few benefits for this gift of Nature.  One reason that we may crave chocolate during our menstrual cycle is because it is high in magnesium which is a muscle relaxant.  Hence, dark chocolate may alleviate menstrual cramps.  It is also rich in other minerals such as iron and zinc. The cocoa in dark chocolate contains antioxidants called flavonoids, which may provide several health benefits.  And finally, choosing dark chocolate over milk chocolate will ensure a lot less sugar in your body! It is truly something to be savored and enjoyed.

I sometimes make a cup of tea with my yoni steaming herbs (Goddess Bliss and Refreshing Bliss are two great options for tea) and I will have everything set up beautifully so that when my steam is ready, I can just sit and enjoy.  Warm steam, hot tea, and a few pieces of my chocolate.  Heaven.  Add a guided meditation or some peaceful music and you are well on your way to having a spa experience at home.

If you have not yet tried yoni steaming make this the month to treat yourself! February can often celebrate romantic love but it is also a great month to celebrate SELF-love!  If you have any questions or wish to learn more, I invite you to book a free call with me here.

Blessings to you as you remember your strength, beauty, and inner light.
