This blog post is going to be quite different than what you are used to.  In the past, most of my blogs were aimed at discussing the various benefits of yoni steaming.  However, during December especially, I like to express gratitude for the many gifts we have in life.  And one of the absolute biggest gifts in my life is the essential oil, Melissa.

I discovered Melissa oil a few years ago, shortly before my wedding.  In my research, I discovered that this oil may have a positive effect on the appearance of nasty blisters and blemishes.  I was intrigued … I purchased my first bottle and since then, Melissa has been a staple in my life.

From my Modern Essentials handbook, I’ve found that Melissa is believed to have the following properties:

  • antiviral
  • antioxidant
  • antibacterial
  • antidepressant
  • antihistamine
  • sedative

A pretty impressive case load of top properties!  Interestingly, there is also scientific research showing that Melissa oil can reduce agitation caused by severe dementia (The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, 2002).

One thing I must mention is that Melissa oil has a very similar aroma to Lemongrass essential oil. And while lovely, it does not have the same constitution as Melissa. This is why, when using essential oils for specific purposes, it is very important to source your oils from a reputable company. All of doTERRA’s oils are CTPT (Certified Tested Pure Grade) meaning that they are of the highest quality – every time.

I encourage you to do your own research on this essential oil, I think that you will be pleasantly surprised on some of the very important circumstances that it can help with!

According to the Essential Emotions book (10th Edition), Melissa oil may also have a positive benefit on our emotions.  This was a major realization for me just this morning – as I research and write this post.  The negative emotions that Melissa oil may help overcome are: despairing, hopelessness, darkness, burdened, loss of will to live, and overwhelmed.  I am being very vulnerable and transparent when I say that prior to using Melissa oil, when I was regularly getting blisters for years, I felt all of these emotions.  And that today, in 2022, I feel none of these.  I now feel joyful, confident, and optimistic.

“Melissa oil awakens the soul to truth and light.  It reminds individuals of who they truly are and why they came to this earth.  Melissa invites one to release everything and anything that holds them back from reaching their fullest potential.”  ~ Essential Emotions, 10th Edition

Some fun facts about this star oil;  doTERRA sources their Melissa from Bulgaria.  Melissa is Greek for “honey bee,” and her sweet fragrance attracts bees.  The leaves and tops of the plant are steam distilled and it takes an astounding 66 pounds of plant matter to create one precious 5 ml bottle of Melissa!  This underlines why it is so important to express our gratitude to the plants we are working with.  In fact, I wrote an entire blog about that concept which you can read here.  And as I go back to read that particular post, I can tell you that I was, in fact, referring to Melissa but did not yet have the courage to share what I am sharing with you today.

I seriously teetertottered about writing this blog and sharing from this most vulnerable place.  And then I had coffee with one of my best girlfriends on the weekend who began to randomly share her similar experience.  About the shame and pain that comes with it.  And I knew that indeed, I had to share.

This blog would not be complete without sharing a few other things that I have learned over the years.  This partly comes from my experience as a holistic nutritionist and partly because it is so personal to me. That being said, I’ve learned that there is a definite balance between the amino acids Lysine and Arginine that can affect our optimal health.  Too much arginine in the body can cause the body to respond negatively.  Sadly, one of the things that I have pretty much cut out of my diet is nuts as they are very  high in arginine and I made that connection years ago.  Cashews have the least amount of arginine so occasionally I will treat myself to one or two! But it is very minimal.  Another food that is quite high in arginine is shellfish.  I LOVE shellfish but have learned over the years to eat it respectfully and when I do indulge, I up my Melissa intake.  Again, these are personal to me.  My best advice to you is to begin noticing your recent diet when an outbreak happens.  And again, do your own research on these important amino acids.

Stress, sugar, and not enough sleep all may contribute to a less than optimal health.  It is important to manage these things.  If sleep or managing sugar or stress is something you struggle with, please reach out to me.  We can book a complimentary call and I would be happy to share what is working for me.  Likewise, if you would like to further discuss how Melissa oil may be beneficial to you, please book a free call.

One important thing to keep in mind is that we all have our very own unique constitutions.  So, while Melissa oil may be magical for me, it may not be the one for you.  Similarly, even with food, sugar, sleep, and stress – these things may affect you differently than they affect me.

From now until the end of the year, doTERRA has a special going that when you make an initial order of 150 PV, your membership fee ($42) is waived.  This allows you to choose your own products.  As an experiment, I created a shopping bag with Melissa, Tea Tree, and On Guard and found that it qualifies you for a free membership!  Just sayin.  If this interests you, you can shop for these (and other) oils here. And as an incredible special for December only, doTERRA is giving away a FREE 15ml Frankincense with an order of 200pv or more! An amazing gift!

In closing, I just want to say thank you, Melissa.  You truly are a gift to the world.  Along with yoni steaming, you are the other great discovery in my life.  You have positively changed my life immensely. I thank you and I share you.

Merry Christmas all!  See you in the New Year!

Blessings to you as you remember your strength, beauty, and inner light.

Meriah Theresa
